Improving Your Appliance Functionality

When we first moved into our home, it was incredible to see how many problems there were. We were always trying to figure out how to fix one thing or another, and it was really discouraging. We realized that we needed to work hard to make sure that our appliances wouldn't just bite the dust when we were least expecting it, so we started thinking about different ways to do things. We started working with an appliance services company that offered fast and efficient service, and they worked wonders on our outdated equipment. Check out this blog for great information on improving your appliance functionality.

Remove Your Refrigerator Door's Damaged Gasket Seal And Replace It

Dean Wade

If the gasket seal that is attached to your refrigerator door has small holes in its surface and the door won't remain closed when you shut it, room temperature air may enter the refrigerator and subject food items to spoilage. The following project describes how to remove the damaged gasket seal and install a new one.

Supplies

  • utility knife
  • measuring tape
  • replacement gasket seal
  • cordless drill
  • disinfectant
  • bucket of warm water
  • sponge with slightly abrasive surface
  • microfiber cloth

Remove The Damaged Seal And Use Disinfectant To Clean The Door

Open the refrigerator door and use a utility knife to cut through the torn gasket seal. Bring the seal with you to an appliance supply center to ensure that the replacement seal that is purchased is the proper length and width. Otherwise, use a measuring tape to measure the length and width of the seal before buying a new gasket seal. Use a cordless drill to loosen the fasteners that are secured to the refrigerator door's interior panel.

Grasp the top corners of the door panel and pull them away from the door's exterior. Grasp the bottom corners of the panel and pull them in the same manner. At this point, the door and panel should be slightly separated. Use a disinfectant to dampen a sponge that has a slightly abrasive surface. Use the sponge to clean the edges of the refrigerator door. Rinse the sponge with warm water before wiping the door's edges with it. Use a microfiber cloth to dry the treated surfaces.

Install The Replacement Seal

Pull one corner of the replacement seal up and over one of the top corners of the door panel and lay the gasket flat across the edge of the door. Continue pulling the remaining corners of the gasket seal up and over the door panel. Inspect the seal to ensure that it is flush with the edges of the refrigerator door. Push the interior panel against the door until the panel is secure. Use a cordless drill to tighten the panel's fasteners.

Close the refrigerator door and inspect each edge of it. As long as you do not see any gaps between the door and the refrigerator's interior compartment, the installation of the gasket seal was performed properly. Prevent the new seal from becoming damaged by avoiding  opening and closing the refrigerator door in a rough manner. Use a damp cloth to remove food crumbs from the gasket seal when necessary. Home appliance repair might seem difficult, but if you have the right tools and know what to do, fixing things on your own can be easy.
