3 Common Appliance Issues And How To Repair Them

Dean Wade

The appliances around your home are an important part of your day to day life. They are a convenience that makes your daily living so much easier, so when one of them breaks down, it can be a big problem. Knowing how to repair minor issues will help you get them working again, but if it's more than just a minor problem, you can call an appliance repairman for help. Read on for a few common appliance issues and how to repair them.

1. Washing Machine Not Draining

If your washing machine isn't draining, you're going to end up with a big problem, especially if you do a lot of laundry each day. If you have water left in your washing machine, you're going to have a difficult time drying your clothing as well, not to mention, your clothing may not be all that clean either. If your machine isn't draining, remove all of the clothing and all of the water as well. Inspect the filter inside, as it may be clogged with lint and other small clothing pieces. Locate the drain filter and empty it as needed. Clean the filter and replace it, then attempt to use your machine again to see if the water drains properly.

2. Dishwasher Not Draining

If your dishwasher isn't draining, that water can eventually begin to smell. Empty the water out of the dishwasher and then locate the filter below the sprayer arms at the base of the dishwasher. Remove any food particle buildup or other debris that may be clogging the filter. If you can't feel or see anything, remove the sprayer arms and the filter. If there is a second filter, remove this as well. Clean up both filters and pour some liquid drain cleaner into the dishwasher drain. Replace the filters and sprayer arms, then test out your machine.

3. Stove Not Lighting

If the burners on your stove aren't lighting, check first that your gas is turned on if it is a gas stove. If it's an electric stove, be sure that your stove is plugged in and that you have power to your outlet. For a gas burner, make sure the burners aren't turned and blocking the opening for the flame by making slight adjustments to the burner covers. Turn on the gas and use a lighter to light the stove, but be very careful when doing so. If you aren't able to get it to work on it's own, you may have a bad igniter. If this is the case, hire an appliance repairman for help.

These are just a few common appliances and issues you may encounter with them. If you have a problem with your appliance and you can't repair it on your own, contact an appliance repair service, like D-3/A-OK Appliance Service Inc., to repair your appliance for you.
