What You Should Do If Your Washing Machine Is Not Spinning

Dean Wade

When your washing machine isn't spinning, it may cause your clothing to be soaking wet. When this happens, it can take a long time to dry your clothing, or you may have to take them elsewhere to have them washed and dried. If your washing machine isn't spinning, there's an issue with the drum that you need to take care of. Read on for some helpful information to help you make this repair.

Spin The Washer Drum Manually

Try to move the washer drum yourself by hand to see if it makes any noise or you feel anything when you move it. If it shakes or feels like it isn't moving in a smooth motion, it may be because the drum is not firmly set in place. The drum may have shaken too much, causing it to break one of the bolts holding the drum in its place. If this is the case, you should remove the back of the machine to expose the drum and the bolts that should be holding it. Inspect the bolts and check to see if they are in place. Replace any bolts that aren't in place or that have broken off. Spin the drum by hand to be sure it spins as it should and then try setting the machine without any clothing in it to be sure it is spinning.

Check The Load

If your washing machine isn't spinning properly, it could be that your machine is too full. If the load is too heavy, it could cause an issue with the machine's ability to spin. Try a smaller load to see if it helps. You shouldn't be washing loads that are too full, as it can cause a number of other issues for your machine. Only put in as much as the machine can handle and use it according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Level Your Machine

If your machine is not level, it can cause a lot of problems. Use a level to be sure it is the level both across the top and the sides. Adjust the legs of the machine until it's level. You may need to adjust the front legs and the back legs as well. Test your handy work when finished.

If your washing machine is not spinning properly, your clothing will not wring out enough to dry them properly. If your machine is not spinning, you can call a professional appliance repair service such as Northshore Appliance Repair Inc for help.
